GOODie Bags

While trotting around downtown Laguna Beach over Mother's Day weekend, I noticed a plethora of vintage inspired shops. My sister, the ultimate candy-gal, made a b-line for The Candy Baron. This old fashioned candy shoppe is chockablock with barrels of hard-to-find taffies, gummies, jawbreakers, and licorice sticks.
This treasure trove of treats reminded me of my childhood days when I would leave a birthday party with a goodie bag rather than a hang over. There's nothing sweeter than a handful of colorful candy wrapped in cellophane and tied with a grosgrain ribbon. Except, maybe, a goodie bag that does a little good.

A few doors down I discovered a shop selling burlap bags in all shapes and sizes silk screened with a simple word and a worthy mission- FEED.
The FEED Project, turns bag sales into meals for children in the developing world.  What makes FEED different is the direct correspondence between the item you purchase and the charitable outcome. This bag bears a number '1' and provides one child with school lunches for a one year. Another, with the number '100' printed on it, provides one hundred school lunches for children in Rwanda. With a selection of FEED bags ranging from farmer's market totes to high fashion clutches, the variety rivals The Candy Baron's assortment of flavors for every taste bud.

[Unfortunately Ms Gingham lost her memory card with original Candy Barron and FEED photos on it! Thank you to Town Goodies and The Find for lending me yours!]

  1. How fun is that! Wish I'd known about this place when I visited Laguna Beach last fall. I don't eat a lot of candy, but I do enjoy a bit now and then. And I adore nostalgia!
